PAXOS Island lies seven miles south of Corfu. The anchorage is picturesque under olive - clad slopes with the huddle of houses of the hamlet at the head of the bay. The anchorage is popular in the summer and this is a lively than a quiet hide - away.
NIDRI is a busy little center in the summer, something of a crossroads for private and flotilla yachts going North or South. The busy square by the harbor has a superb view out over the bay and across to the islands and the mountains of the mainland opposite.
LEFKAS is an island only because of the canal which separates it from the mainland. Lefkas town is sited on a bend of the canal and in common with many other towns on this earthquake belt was rebuilt after the 1953 earthquake.
MOURTOS village is a pleasant place in a wooded setting with friendly locals. The new quayed area and the waterfront development has all been done in a sympathetic way without spoiling the ambience of the place.
MEGANISI lies immediately east of lefkas. The strait between Meganisi and Lefkas is one of the loveliest channels in the Ionian. The island has several natural harbors and numerous enclosed bays fringed by olive and cypress with clear blue water.
ITHAKI, according to Homer is the island of Odysseus. The island has numerous coves and anchorages with water that is so clear, that it is difficult to believe you 're not going to touch bottom.
FISCARDO is a popular spot for yachts. The safe port and picturesque houses set amid green pines groves remain pretty much original and a historical prerservation order will hopefully keep them that way.
VASILIKI was a sleepy little agricultural and fishing village until the arrival of water sports centers. |
